Family Fun Tip – Feed the Birds

Good Morning Everybody!
Brrrrr!  Winter has definitely arrived!  So here’s a lovely, fun idea for your little one from the RSPB and a warming, winter treat for the birds.
Whilst you’re out and about today, encourage your little one to collect some fallen twigs.  Then, when you’re home, all you need is some string, an apple and something to push through the apple to make a hole (a corer works well).  Encourage your little one to thread the string through the hole you have made.  Then, tie a knot at the end and push a few currants or raisins into the apple.
Now the apple is ready for your little one to push their collected twigs into the bottom, for the birds to sit on as they munch away.  Finally, find a place to hang it up outside.
Whilst watching the birds feeding, why not have a go at singing this song together?  It’s to the tune of ‘Row, Row, Row, Your Boat’.
Feed, feed, feed the birds
In the wintertime.
When the days are dark and cold,
Food is hard to find.
Feed, feed, feed the birds
Till the spring has come.
Scatter birdseed on the snow.
Feeding birds is fun!
