About Us

About Us

Our pre-school first opened as a parent run playgroup in 1968 and has always been a not for profit community group.  We relocated to our current site in 1982 and in March 2011, a Sure Start grant enabled our current building to be put in its place on the same site that will ensure this much needed childcare facility will be able to continue for many more years to come.

We offer an experienced and professional inclusive service.  We have long standing links to the local community and now welcome the grand children of pupils who attended our preschool 50 years ago. 2018 has been a special year for us so far as it is our Golden Anniversary year.  This was marked by an amazing community party which was attended by local Councillors and community leaders.

We pride ourselves on having an holistic outlook to childcare where all children can thrive and reach their potential. Using the “planning in the moment” approach to learning and development we enhance your childrens experience by allowing child initiated, real time, learning through play based on capturing the interest of a child at the current time. There is no (or very little), forward planning or focus activities.

Young children have a natural desire to learn, explore and question. We offer core provisions and an environment that enables this activity in order to capture the moment of engagement for each child. Careful observation by Practitioners is key  – opportunities to seize the moment when a child shows a level of interest and curiosity that can be drawn out and then enhanced and built upon need to be recognised – these are normally called ‘teachable moments’. Written ‘planning’ is then done retrospectively in the form of observations, records of the interactions and notes on outcomes.

We operate a “Free Flow” system throughout the day enabling children to access the area where they grow and learn according to their individual preference, whatever the weather. This system works by mirroring the spaces inside and outside thereby allowing children who have different sensory needs to access all resources in the manner that best enhances their experience.  This coupled with the use of “In the moment Planning” allows for a joined up learning journey.
